As the days pass and I watch all that is going on in the world today, I find myself struggling to live in this world yet not of it.  Never have I felt so much like I don’t belong here and the straw that broke me and caused me to weep with such sorrow were the days some states announced the decision to allow the murder of not just the pre-born but the born, ...

“I prayed to God and I got what I asked for!”  These precious and excited words skipped joyfully out of Miss J’s mouth as she shared with all of us her BIG news!

I know you want to know the BIG news, and well, I will tell you soon enough.  But, you know, there is always a back story with me!

I remember the day Miss J visited Heart of Hope for the first ...

In the context of being a message bearer of the Cross, our lives reveal to others the power of the Resurrection.  In every circumstance of life, both good and bad, this question is an important one to ask, “Is my life a witness to the love, grace and power of Jesus Christ?”

At Heart of Hope, the way we live each day in front of our residents is a living witness to the new creations ...

Are you reading this letter right now and have a child, grandchild, or loved one who has lost his/her way?

Because God has shown the depth of His love through the ministry of Heart of Hope, I can assure you He is on the scene with those who came to your mind a moment ago!

I am undone every time a young lady tours Heart of Hope for the first time desperate for answers.

The Webster’s Dictionary of 1828 defines trust this way:

TRUST, noun. Is confidence; a reliance or resting of the mind on the integrity, veracity, justice, friendship or other sound principle of another person.

What faces appear in your mind’s eye when you think trustworthy?

Can you imagine what it is like for a 14-year-old whose own parents have been anything but trustworthy?  The very family who is supposed to be kind, loving, caring, ...

This week was difficult for us at Heart of Hope.

Each of us at Heart of Hope believes we have been given an assignment from the Lord to be His hands and feet to the young women we care for during this challenge of teen pregnancy.  The home experience we create for them is so contrary to the life style to which they are accustomed.

Our newest resident, a 14-year-old, has never known a home ...

I will never get over the goodness of our God!  If you are always looking for it, neither will you!

This month as we prepared for our banquet guests to fill our event room, we prayed that each person would feel God’s heartbeat for the young women we serve. Tours of the home allowed our guests to experience for themselves what our families experience when they visit for the first time:  beauty, peace, provision, ...

Happy New Year from all of us at Heart of Hope, including the precious baby who was born to Miss E on January third. We are over the moon in love with this gift from God and thankful that his birth reminds us of God’s faithfulness. As we begin this year, we confess our need for God…fresh…new…again. We know that He makes all things new, in our hearts, in our minds, ...

The Word of God is ALIVE! Recently, I read the below scripture and saw something for the very first time.  I would like to share it with you.

Luke 1:26-30 says, “Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.  And coming ...

When you look at an iceberg, you may see a small hill above the water that seems harmless and easily avoidable. It can be deceiving because underneath the water, that iceberg is wide, deep, jagged, and unseen, making it potentially dangerous. At Heart of Hope, we have the ability to see under the water and witness the raw reality of teen and single motherhood. Depression, poverty, continued shame, lack of education, broken families and hopelessness ...

I am in awe of the Brattin Family!

Recently, we received a call from because the Brattin family, whom I have not had the pleasure of meeting, is having a fundraiser for Heart of Hope by selling T-Shirts in honor of their unborn baby girl, Emery Lea.

Below is their story:

We are the Brattin family, and we will soon welcome our precious and marvelous blessing, our daughter, Emery Lea. Emery has been ...

This year, three of our past residents walked the stage to receive their High School diploma.  We also had a 2012 resident graduate from Centenary College in May, earning a degree in just 2 ½ years!  The national statistic tells us that this type of success is not the norm!  But, God!  But, Heart of Hope – A Sanctuary for Women!

  •   Over 60 % of teen moms complete their high school and receive diplomas
  •  By age 30, only 1.5% of women who had ...

God uses every bit of our lives to make a beautiful tapestry revealing His love story to those around us….if we let Him!

All of us can get stuck in the aftermath of a bad choice.  The secret of how quick we get back on track with the life Jesus died to give us is linked with how quick we recognize His amazing grace.   I not only spoke them, as a mom, I also ...

Embrace: To receive or accept gladly or readily

Grace: Unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification

What’s it like to hit rock bottom? To be overwhelmed with shame and guilt, to believe the lie that you are worthless and always will be.  Then on top of that, you realize that your own poor decisions will affect others.  Everything will change: your relationship with your boyfriend, your friends and your family, and ...

A couple of months ago, I met a young lady walking through “a bump in life”, an unexpected pregnancy.

Her mother found out about Heart of Hope and planted the seed in her to consider coming to Heart of Hope through her pregnancy.  She is very strong willed and opinionated and thought she had it all figured out.  Something inside of her decided she needed to walk through this “bump” away from her everyday life ...

It was less than a year ago when I had the privilege of attending Heartbeat's Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas.  It was an inspiring and instructional weekend where both the learned and the teachable came together to glean from eachother and become even more passionate about saving the unborn while declaring purpose and life for their mom!

At one of the fine dinners that were provided for the attendees, I had the pleasure of sitting ...

Psalm 68:10-12  Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

“You rained down showers in plenty, God;
when your heritage was weary, you restored it.
Your flock SETTLED IN it;
in your goodness, God, you provided for the poor.
Adonai gives the command”

Is it not our hope and intention to raise up an army of mighty women who call upon the name of the Lord and declare the ...

Last Thursday, we had our mentors’ kick-off meeting.  Our mentorship program will begin this fall.  Each resident who desires to join the program will be matched with both an adult, female mentor and a prayer partner.  Mentors will call their mentees at least once a week and will visit them at least once a month.  Our mentors are another example to our residents of what stability, accountability and the love of Christ look like in ...

Confrontation can either be a positive or negative reaction.  I used to hate confrontation more than you hated eating your broccoli as a child.  I despised the awkward encounters that it could bring about, and worried immensely about offending people or being tacked as judgmental.  However, since interning with Family Research Council and now working at a Christian nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting for Christian values and principles in America, I find myself loving and ...

January - the start of a new year – full of excitement, fresh promises and an empty calendar.  Then comes February.  Suddenly our calendars are no longer blank.  The once crisp pages are dog-eared with reminders, and the clean slate is now a chaotic masterpiece of colorful highlights and marginal notes.  If we aren’t careful, the gift of another new start transforms into the burden of yet another appointment almost overnight.  But God didn’t ...

We are now on day 3 of a New Year! How are you doing with that resolution?

Isn’t it funny how we start thinking of all those things we want to change about ourselves in November and can’t wait until January 1st when we will begin turning over new leaves?!

I am not kidding when I tell you that EVERY year I promise myself I am going to write more letters and cards to ...

Christmas is a'coming,
and the geese are getting fat,
Please put a penny
In the old man's hat.
If you haven't got a penny,
A ha'penny will do,
If you haven't got a ha'penny,
Then God bless you.

When my two brothers and I were kids, we started singing this Christmas tune the day after Thanksgiving.  Now, some of you have never even heard this song before, and if you are lucky enough to visit ...

1 Corinthians 13:12

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”

Let’s face it – we live in a culture which takes pride in being anything but fully known.  This trend crosses state and party lines, a rarity after an election which proved little does anymore.  If you question this, pick ...

Genesis 2:3

So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

I don’t know what your home is like this week, but it has been a little very busy around here.  We are hosting the National Christian Housing Conference this weekend.  We are painting rooms, decorating tables, cooking meals, filling binders, preparing lectures, cleaning rooms, and playing host to 70 ...

Hebrews 11:15 (NIV)

“If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had the opportunity to return.”

God fashions our minds as incredible and powerful creations.  We can improve recovery rates with positive thoughts, or convince ourselves that an otherwise empty house is suddenly filled with no less than 3 burglars and a closet-monster.  Our minds are powerful.  There is a reason people take-on a tough situation with a “mind-over-matter” approach and ...

Galatians 3:8-9

The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in you.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.

“Leave everything you have ever known for a place I have chosen.”  How’s that for a first greeting?  I don’t know about yours, but my ever so eloquent reply would be, “Excuse ...

We love our website and newsletters, but we want another, more frequent way to communicate with our volunteers, prayer partners, community and fellow maternity homes.

I am sure many of you read and follow blogs already and know about their popularity on the internet.  Blogs are such a fun and easy way to share pictures and information with a large audience.  Jodi and I have been talking a ...
